Gaithersburg, MD – Spring Pond Clean Out

May 17, 2017 // By Scott Brown

This beautiful 6,000-gallon pond is located in Gaithersburg, MD. It had been several years since it had been thoroughly cleaned when the owner contacted us. We had previously installed a complete IonGen system to help address the string algae problem this pond had been experiencing. As you can see the IonGen has done a fantastic job!

The clean out began with the pond crew capturing approx. 2,500-gallons of existing water in our portable holding tanks. This is done so that fish stay protected and safe during the clean out process. Once the pond was completely drained the crew spent some time removing the “muck” and searching for any tiny fish or hiding frogs!

Before Cleaning

The filtration system was thoroughly cleaned including filter pads, bioballs and skimmer nets/baskets. All rocks were power washed. The crew fertilized the water lilies and other aquatic plants before re-positioning in the pond. Approx. 1,000 gallons of existing water was then transferred back and the fish were gently returned to their home. With such a large pond a water truck was called in to finish refilling the pond. The pumps were plugged back in and Beneficial Bacteria and pond detoxifier were added to help the pond stay balanced and the fish healthy.

The “After” pictures speak for themselves – crystal clear and stunning!!
